Gerbils are very easy to care for. They can live about 2 years but they are prone to seizures. These guys love to chew so make sure to provide cardboard or newspaper or papertowels. They should be housed in a glass, wire or tube cage. Food should consist of wheat, cereal, oats or even dried pasta. The most basic type of food give are lab blocks.
